Commissioners like idea of new radio tower

AUBURN — DeKalb County Commissioners are looking at ways to spend $8.4 million the county is expecting from the new federal American Rescue Plan. They reacted positively Monday to a suggestion for using some of it to buy a new radio tower for the Central Communications emergency dispatching service. A 180-foot tower at the Central Communications site near DeKalb High School would cost between $300,000 and $500,000, said Central Communications Director Brian Humbarger, who made the suggestion. “It just makes sense to put all of our resources and some of the city’s resources on a tower,” Humbarger said. He referred to the City of Auburn, which he said is planning to take down its aging, 160-foot tower at City Hall.

Forsyth has two more COVID-19 related deaths as daily case count increases

There have been 366 COVID-19 related deaths in Forsyth since mid-March 2020, including five in April. There were 261 cases listed for Forsyth since the last report Friday, including 58 reported Sunday. The total case count is at 34,066. Because DHHS no longer provides a daily COVID-19 metrics dashboard on the weekends, it is not clear on which days the other 203 cases were reported for Forsyth. Going into the weekend, Forsyth’s new daily case counts had remained below 100 for at 39 consecutive days. DHHS lists COVID-19 cases and deaths on the day they are confirmed by medical providers and public health officials so people may have been infected or have died days before their cases were counted.
